London, Dec.13: Prime Minister of United Kingdom informed on Monday that one patient has died after contracting the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.

“Sadly at least one patient has now been confirmed to have died with Omicron. So I think the idea that this is somehow a milder version of the virus – I think that’s something we need to set on one side – and just recognise the sheer pace at which it accelerates through the population,” Johnson told the reporters.

Johnson has tightened restrictions since the first Omicron cases were discovered on Nov 27 in the United Kingdom, and on Sunday he urged people to get booster vaccinations to keep the health department from becoming overloaded.

The Omicron coronavirus variety is growing at a “phenomenal rate,” according to Health Secretary Sajid Javid, accounting for around 40% of illnesses in London.
