Prayagraj, June 30: Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, gave the keys of 76 affordable housing units developed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to beneficiaries on land recovered from the control of slain gangster Atiq Ahamed in Prayagraj on Friday.

CM Yogi Adityanath interacted with kids at the location of the flats that were given to the beneficiaries. Additionally, he inspected apartments for the poor. A beneficiary said,  “It feels great. I could never have imagined that I will get my own house. Now nobody will tell me to leave from here…”

Beneficiaries would receive a flat measuring 41 square metres for about Rs 3.5 lakh. According to officials, a two-bedroom flat with a kitchen and bathroom costs Rs 6 lakh.

A lottery was held to distribute up to 76 low-income apartments constructed on land confiscated from the assassinated gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh on June 9.

“The lottery was drawn for allotment in the auditorium of Allahabad Medical Association. After verification of 6,030 applicants, 1,590 were found eligible to participate in the lottery,” Arvind Kumar Chauhan Vice Chairman of Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) said.

CM Yogi laid the foundation stone on December 26, 2021, for this low-cost home project on a plot of land that had been freed from Atiq’s control in the Lukerganj neighbourhood of Prayagraj.

According to officials, the District Urban Development Authorities (DUDA) undertook this project as part of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), and up to 76 apartments have been constructed in two blocks.

Atiq Ahmed was charged with the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) MLA Raju Pal as well as the February 2018 murder of Umesh Pal also a crucial witness in that case.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf Ahmed were being escorted for a medical test in Prayagraj when they were shot to death by men posing as journalists on April 15 night of this year.
