New Delhi: US Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Micheal Gilday laid a wreath at the National War Memorial in Delhi on Tuesday.

Gilday is on a five-day official visit to India, from October 11 to 15. According to the schedule, he will meet with Admiral Karambir Singh, India’s chief of naval staff, including other high-ranking officials of the Indian Navy. He will also be visiting Western Naval Command at Mumbai and Eastern Naval Command at Visakhapatnam. Here he will be interacting with the Commander-in-Chief of both places. As per the schedules of the Admiral, along with the Indian delegation, he will embark on the US Navy Carrier Strike Group off the east coast of India.

Mutual trust and confidence have been the core of the defense relationship between India and the US. This also transformed on June 16 when India was accorded with the status of Major Defense Partner.

Notably, in the past, both countries have concluded some foundational agreements in the field of defense like, the Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) in September 2018, which will facilitate information sharing between both countries’ armed forces. In addition to this, the Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement in 2016 was signed for reciprocal logistics support between armed forces of both countries. These types of agreements have given strength to armed forces between both countries.

The Navies of both the countries closely cooperate with each other on a number of issues. These include operational interactions such as RIMPAC series of exercise and MALABAR series of exercise, training exchanges etc.
