New Delhi, July 21: The House committee looking into the attack on the US Capitol by supporters of Donald Trump concludes its tense public hearings today with a primetime television finale analysing the former president’s conduct on the day.

Congresswoman Elaine Luria, one of the seven Democrats and two Republicans who voted to impeach Trump during the bloody uprising on January 6, 2021, said, ‘It’s pretty simple.’

“He was doing nothing to actually stop the riot, despite his advisers urging him continuously to take action, to take more action,” ” the Democratic lawmaker from Virginia said.

The committee will look at Trump’s actions ‘minute by minute,’ according to Luria, starting with his vehement speech to supporters outside the White House in which he claimed the upcoming election had been rigged up until the point when he finally told the rioters they were ‘very special’ but it was time to go home.

The committee’s Republican vice chair, Liz Cheney, stated that the panel would provide proof that “Donald Trump never picked up the phone that day to instruct his administration to help.”

In an effort to ascertain whether the former president or associates were involved in the planning or encouragement of the effort by Trump supporters to impede certification of Democrat Joe Biden’s election victory, the panel has subpoenaed a number of Trump advisers and staffers.

The committee’s ninth hearing, which will last for two hours today in Washington, will begin at 8:00 p.m. (0000 GMT). Although the committee has not ruled out additional sessions, it is anticipated that this will be the only one this summer.
