Earlier, Kishore Upadhyay, the previous Uttarakhand Congress Chief, has switched sides and joined the BJP.

After being denied a seat in the elections, Negi announced his desire to leave the BJP. Meanwhile, Negi levelled a major charge against the BJP, alleging that the party accepted money from Kishore Upadhyay in exchange for a position in the party.
