Tehri Garhwal, August 19: Following a significant landslide from the mountain in the Totaghati area of Tehri Garhwal district, traffic has been suspended on the Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway-58, officials said on Saturday.

The Badrinath Highway’s traffic was stopped due to a significant landslide that occurred in the Totaghati area, according to Tehri District Magistrate Mayur Dixit.

He explained that work was being done to clear the road, but that given the size of the landslide, it might take some time.

Following significant rains in the state yesterday, the water level in the Pindar River in the Tharali area of the Chamoli district increased.

“There was heavy rain in the area late at night yesterday, after which the water level of the Pranmati River started flowing above the danger mark. Due to this the Pindar river also came in spate,” Chamoli District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana said.

The DM added that certain houses and agricultural fields in the area had suffered damage as a result of the rise in river water levels, which had caused a panicky environment among the locals.

In the  Kaluwala area of Dehradun, Friday’s heavy downpours disturbed daily life. The rainwater seeped inside the homes and flooded the streets, according to SDRF.

Pushkar Singh Dhami, the state’s Chief Minister, did an aerial surveillance of flood-affected areas on Monday. He also examined the Ganga River’s rising water level in Rishikesh.

This monsoon’s heavy rains in Uttarakhand have caused landslides and flash floods in a number of locations.
