Hyderabad: Renowned Telugu film actor and former BJP MLA Kota Srinivasa Rao passed away at the age of 83 after a prolonged illness. He breathed his last in the early hours of Sunday at his residence in Filmnagar, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, just two days after celebrating his 83rd birthday.
A Storied Career Spanning Four Decades
Born in Kankipadu in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh, Rao made his cinematic debut in 1978 with the film Pranam Khareedhu. Over a prolific career spanning more than four decades, he appeared in over 750 films across Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Hindi cinema, earning acclaim for his versatile performances, particularly in villainous and strong character roles.
Some of his most memorable films include Aha Naa Pellanta!, Pratigatana, Khaidi Number 786, Shiva, and Yamaleela, each cementing his reputation as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema.
Honours and Political Career
Kota Srinivasa Rao was honored with the Padma Shri in 2015 for his remarkable contribution to Indian cinema. He was also the recipient of nine Nandi Awards, recognizing his exceptional talent and impact on the Telugu film industry.
Apart from his illustrious film career, Rao also served as a BJP MLA, representing the Vijayawada East Assembly constituency from 1999 to 2004, showcasing his multifaceted persona beyond the silver screen.
