Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, BJP national president JP Nadda and other BJP leaders were also present there.

Jagdeep Dhankhar, the governor of West Bengal, was named by the BJP on Saturday as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for vice president.

On Sunday, the Jagdeep Dhankhar for Vice President campaign received additional backing from the Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal (BJD). According to official sources, the decision was made after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to ask for support for Dhankhar.

In 2019, Dhankhar was chosen to serve as the governor of West Bengal.

In the meantime, Margaret Alva, a senior Congress leader and former Union minister, has been announced as the opposition’s joint candidate for the vice presidential election on August 6. On Tuesday, Alva will submit her nomination.

The 16th vice president of India will be chosen in elections that will be held on August 6, 2022, according to the Election Commission. Venkaiah Naidu was the NDA’s nominee for the vice presidential race in 2017, and he ultimately won the election, becoming India’s 15th vice president. August 10th, 2022 marks the end of his mandate.
