New Delhi, Nov 18: Vikram-S, India’s first commercially manufactured rocket, successfully launched from the Sriharikota spaceport, some 115 kilometres from Chennai on Friday. This marks the entry of the private sector into the nation’s space industry, which has been dominated for decades by the state-run ISRO.

“Mission Prarambh has been completed successfully. Congratulations “ISRO tweeted a statement.

“Launched! Vikram-S makes history as the first private rocket of India to grace the skies. We thank you all for being with us for this momentous occasion,” startup Skyroot Aerospace, which developed the rocket, said in a Tweet.

After launch, Vikram-S soared to an altitude of 89.5 km and reportedly satisfied all requirements, the company added a YouTube link to the flight.
