Star batter and former captain Virat Kohli has been ruled out of India’s upcoming three-match ODI series against Afghanistan due to a hamstring injury, dealing a major blow to Team India and fans ahead of the series beginning on June 13.

Injury Sustained During IPL 2026 Final

Kohli suffered the hamstring injury during the IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans on Sunday. Despite visibly struggling while running in the final overs, Kohli refused to leave the field and played through the pain, scoring an unbeaten 75 off 42 balls to guide RCB to a five-wicket victory and their second consecutive IPL title.

ODI Series Schedule

The three-match ODI series against Afghanistan will begin on June 13 in Dharamshala, with the second match scheduled for June 17 in Lucknow. The third and final ODI will be hosted by the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on June 20.

Rohit Sharma’s Participation Also in Doubt

Rohit Sharma is also dealing with an injury and his availability for the ODI series remains uncertain. Both Rohit and Hardik Pandya have been included in the squad but will need to pass fitness tests before being cleared to play.

Kohli’s Stellar IPL 2026 Campaign

Despite missing the ODI series, Kohli ended IPL 2026 on a high note. He finished fourth among the tournament’s leading run-scorers, amassing 675 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 165, making the most runs for RCB and playing a central role in the team’s championship triumph.
