New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has sharply attacked the Modi government following the suicide of NEET aspirant Akansha Chaturvedi from Mauganj in Madhya Pradesh, calling her death not a suicide but the result of a corrupt and broken system under PM Modi.

Who Was Akansha Chaturvedi

Akansha, originally from Magania village in Mauganj district, was preparing for the NEET examination at Physics Wallah coaching centre in Nagpur. Her father Krishna Kumar Chaubey, a farmer, had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakh on a Kisan Credit Card to fund his daughter’s dream of becoming a doctor and had taken up a cook’s job in Nagpur so she could study there. According to family members, Akansha had felt her NEET exam went well, but fell into depression after news of the paper leak broke. She stopped eating and drinking and died by suicide on the night of May 20.

Suicide Note Said She Had No Courage to Appear Again

Akansha left behind a suicide note in which she wrote that she no longer had the strength to appear for the examination again, reflecting the deep despair that had overtaken her following the paper leak and cancellation of the exam.

Rahul Gandhi Holds System Responsible

Posting on X, Rahul Gandhi said Akansha wanted to become a doctor and serve the country and society. He described how her father did everything within his means — taking loans and working away from home — only for the NEET paper to be leaked and the examination to be cancelled. Gandhi wrote that Akansha’s death is not a suicide but the product of PM Modi’s corrupt and broken system, while Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan continues to hold his position with no real reform or justice in sight.

Rahul Attacks Modi on Education System’s Collapse

Gandhi further wrote that while political positions are not permanent, the damage done to India’s education system over 12 years will be paid for by an entire generation of young Indians. He questioned the cycle of committees, transfers, and investigations that follow each scandal with no meaningful change.
