Ranchi, March 18: Jharkhand is known for producing world-class sportspersons who represent Jharkhand at the International level. However, The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs, Jharkhand has not been providing funds to the Jharkhand Volleyball Association for the last two to three years.
Shekhar Bose, Secretary of Jharkhand Volleyball Association spoke to Lagatar24.com and said that they have not been provided with any funds for the last 2 to 3 years and it is the same with all the associations.
“We provided them with the details around two years back with regard to the fund we need for the association but nothing has happened till now. We are managing the funds on our own and Shri Subodh Kant Sahay has also helped us a lot. It is not only with the Volleyball Association but with all other associations as well,” he said
An official from Jharkhand Volleyball Association explained that the Government used to grant them funds earlier but in past few years the story has been different.
“Whenever we asked for funding, the government used to help us by providing Rs. 2 or 3 lacs as per our requirement. However, around five years back we requested the department to fund us with Rs. 5.5 lacs but nothing has been provided till now. We manage the funds by ourselves,” he added.
Lagatar24.com tried to contact Sports Director Zeeshan Qamar but there has been no response from the other end.
Jharkhand Volleyball Association has centres in 24 different districts and each district has 6 different units. In order for it to run smoothly, it is important that the Government should provide funding.
“Despite no funding, we are organizing several events and competitions on a regular basis in order to develop players from the State,” said the Secretary.
