Ranchi, Oct 15: An illegal unit of improvised weapons running in Jamtara was unearthed after a Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police came into action after getting information in this regard from Mohammed Imtiyaz alias Abbu and his son Imtiyaz, accused of having association with Munger-based improvised guns and counterfeit cash ring.
Jamtara SP Manoj Swargiarya confirmed the breakthrough saying, “It was made yesterday.”
A police official said: “The development occurs a few days after Munger-based improvised guns and counterfeit cash ring members were apprehended by Kolkata Police. A search operation took the crew to Jharkhand, where they broke an illegal modified subterranean arm-making unit in Jamtara, based on the revelations made by the accused, Md Imtiyaz alias Abbu, and his son Imtiaz.”
STF sources said that the operation was carried out based on the testimony of Md Imtiyaz, the in-prison accused and son of the apprehended culprit Abbu.
An STF team discovered an improvised gun manufacturing facility inside Shahjahan Khan’s home in Mihijam, Jamtara, Jharkhand, in a converted underground chamber.
In the course of the raid, heavy equipment including a lathe milling machine, grinding machines, and raw materials, tools, and measuring devices were recovered and seized from the aforementioned secret underground chamber, along with seven pieces of semi-finished pistols with loosely fitted muzzles.
