Jamshedpur, April 8: A 42-year-old man was trampled to death by a wild elephant while he was going to meet nature’s call near his house at Chowka in the adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Saturday morning.

The incident has taken place at Balaidih village under the Chowka thana area which comes under the Chandil forest range of the district about 40 km away from here early in the morning.

Identified as Rahin Munda, the victim was a resident of the Balaidih village, the residents of which are frightened after the elephant-trampled death.

The villagers had come to know about the incident immediately after it happened but did reach the spot only after the killer elephant left the place. Then only the villagers had informed about the incident to the police.

The police and forest department officials had reached the spot for inspection.

According to a forest department official, it was a lone elephant that had strayed into the village after getting separated from a herd of elephants now anchored in the Chowka jungle.

“Generally, after getting separated from the herd, a lone elephant tends to get aggressive. And if such wild elephant strays into a human habitat, then it becomes dangerous,” observed the official while talking to lagatar24.com.

Significantly, in all four people have been killed by the wild elephants during the many months in the Chandil forest range area so far.
