Dumka, Oct 20: A 22 years old woman suffered serious burn injury after her clothes caught fire while scuffling with her husband to snatch a bottle of petrol her husband was holding in his hand allegedly intending to pour on her and set on fire in Khadkasol village under Gopikandar police station of the district following an altercation over a petty issue late evening on Wednesday.

The victim, Rupa Marandi, in her statement to the police at the Phulo Jhano Medical College Hospital here said that her husband Parmeshwar Soren whom she stayed with in neighbouring Silangi village, was annoyed by her move to visit her ailing grandmother at Khadkasol village without informing him when the latter was away from home the same evening.

“Parmeshwar got angry after finding me absent from home and reached my grandmother’s home with the view to bring me back to his home, which I declined,” Rupa stated to the police adding her denial led to a heated exchange of words between them when her husband took out a bottle filled with petrol from the dickey of his motorcycle in a fit of rage.

The victim further said that it was when few drops of petrol spilled over a burning earthen stove during the scuffle her clothes caught fire by the sudden blaze.

Police said victim’s husband too has sustained burn injury in his both hands while attempting to douse the fire.

“Both the woman and her husband have been sent to RIMS for treatment of their burn injuries after been referred from the PJMCH,” Nityanand Bhokta, the officer in-charge of Gopikandar police station said adding however that the condition of woman victim was more critical.
