New Delhi: A labour protest in Noida and Faridabad turned violent on Monday after days of demonstrations over wage demands. Thousands of workers reportedly engaged in vandalism, stone-pelting, and arson, leading to heavy police deployment across affected industrial areas.
Violence Erupts After Salary Dispute
The agitation had been ongoing peacefully for three days in industrial zones including Noida Phase-2, Sector 60, Sector 63, and parts of Faridabad. However, tensions escalated after workers claimed there was no concrete resolution to their demand for salary hikes.
Several vehicles were damaged and some were set on fire during the unrest.
Police Use Tear Gas, Security Tightened
Police used tear gas shells to disperse crowds and restore order. Authorities later increased security presence in sensitive zones and near factory clusters.
Entry points into the national capital region were also placed under heightened surveillance.
Government Orders Strict Action
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reportedly took note of the violence and directed officials to take strict action against those responsible.
Senior police officials said instigators and possible outside elements are being identified through investigation.
Talks Continue to Calm Situation
Administrative officers, police, and industrial authorities are attempting to reopen dialogue with worker groups to defuse tensions and prevent further clashes.
The situation remains under close watch as agencies assess damage and law-and-order risks.
