New Delhi, July 22: Eldhose Paul made history by being the first Indian to reach the World Championships triple jump final with a leap of 16.68 metres in Eugene, Oregon.
He was sixth in Group A qualification and 12th overall to qualify for the final on Sunday (6:50am IST). Due to visa complications, the 25-year-old Paul arrived in Eugene just a few days ago. He has a personal best and season’s best of 16.99m, which he achieved in April while earning gold at the Federation Cup.
Praveen Chithravel and Abdulla Aboobacker, the other two Indian competitors, missed the finals with best leaps of 16.49 and 16.45 metres, respectively. Aboobacker placed 10th in Group B and 19th overall, while Chitravel placed eighth in Group A.
