New Delhi, Feb 8: The World Test Championship (WTC) Final between the top two Test-playing nations will take place at The Oval from June 7 to 11, with June 12 serving as the designated reserve day, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Wednesday.
In its long history, the South London venue has played host to over 100 Test matches. In June, the top two Test teams in the ICC World Test Championship standings will arrive to battle for the ICC WTC Mace. The highlight of the Test season is the ICC WTC Final, a weeklong celebration of the game’s longest format.
The ICC WTC’s two years of gruelling competition, which have seen 61 Test matches and 24 series played to date, have culminated in this Ultimate Test.
There are a number of important matches scheduled to be played in the upcoming weeks to determine the finalist countries, even though the two contending nations may not yet be known.
Australia is now in first spot, followed closely by India in second place. A four-Test series between the two teams will begin on Thursday in Nagpur.
While all six teams have a chance to qualify, Sri Lanka, which is currently third in the standings, and South Africa, which is currently fourth, are among the favourites to challenge the top two. These teams will face off against the current WTC champions New Zealand and the West Indies in two two-Test series in February and March.
