Ranchi, Nov 16: Jharkhand Governor Ramesh Bais on Wednesday inaugurated the new building of the Dr Shayama Prasad Mukherjee University (DSPMU). Notably, the building has been made within five years after Ranchi College was upgraded into a university in 2017 with a total budget of Rs 35 crore. The building is to house classrooms along with the administrative block of the university and examination halls.
The Governor in his address, “It is very important to have the basic infrastructure in educational institutions and hope the institution reaches to great heights. I am worried seeing the shortage of teachers in universities, and vacant posts for promotion. Education is not just about completing the syllabus, making notes or completing the degree well. University should do research, and university research journals should be published and should be the centre of thought. The responsibility is also on the teachers, without teachers no civilized society can be imagined. There is a need to pay more attention to the quality of education, for this government teachers need to work hard.”
Furthermore, Nitin Madan Kulkarni advised the university management to make sure that the condition of the building remains same as this in the years to come. In case of the educators, Kulkarni said that teachers should help children achieve their maximum efficiency.
He further added, “I am fortunate that I have got the opportunity to work in this university. We have to keep the atmosphere good here. The identity of a university is not recognized by its building and infrastructure. No one will say that the building there is good, but the educational environment will be good.”
Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya started his address with the lines of Maithali Sharan Gupta. He further added that infrastructure is necessary for the development of any institution. “We will try to create better opportunities for research at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University. Our university follows all the rules of the new education policy,” he added.
Others present on the occasion included Principal Secretary to Governor Dr Nitini Madan Kulkarni, DSPMU VC Dr Tapan Kumar Shandilya, Ranchi University VC Dr Ajit Kumar Sinha, Jharkhand Open University VC Dr TN Sahu, DSPMU Registrar Dr Namita Singh, RU Registrar Dr M C Mehta along with Dr Smriti Singh from Ranchi University.
