New Delhi, Jan 31: Prime Minister Narendra Modi targeted the Samajwadi Party on Monday, stating that muscle men and rioters used to be law unto themselves in Uttar Pradesh five years ago.
Modi stated during the previous regime, while Western Uttar Pradesh was burning due to violence, people in power were partying, in his first virtual poll rally after the state’s assembly elections were announced.
The state’s former government, the Samajwadi Party (SP), was defeated by the BJP in the 2017 assembly elections.
“Five years ago, dabangg (strongmen) & dangai (rioters) used to run the show in UP. Their words were treated as Govt orders. People of western UP can never forget that when this region was burning in riots, the then Govt was celebrating,” said PM Modi.

“The illegal occupation of the homes, land and shops of the poor, Dalits, backwards and the downtrodden was a sign of socialism five years ago,” added PM Modi addressing a virtual rally.
“Can those who hesitate in travelling to Noida, a destination for aspirations of youths, due to superstition represent dreams of youths?” Modi asked, referring to former chief minister and SP president Akhilesh Yadav, who had avoided visiting Noida due to a superstition.
Can people who don’t believe in the country’s own Covid vaccine and spread rumours accept the talent and ingenuity of Uttar Pradesh’s young, he said during a rally for 21 assembly seats in five districts: Baghpat, Shamli, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Muzaffarnagar, and Saharanpur.
Notably, the first phase polling in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 10, the second phase on February 14, the third phase on February 20, the fourth phase on February 23, the fifth phase on February 27, the sixth phase on March 3 and the seventh phase on March 7. The counting of votes will take place on March 10.
