Jamshedpur July 8: Body of a 28-year-old youth was found lying at Baroda Ghat in the Kharkai river along Bagbera thana area on Saturday morning.

The deceased whose identity is yet to be established had put on a jeans pant and a T-shirt, suggesting that the youth might have drowned in the river-ghat due to the reason other than taking bath.

Having come to know about the body, a police party arrived at the scene and recovered it.  The police kept the body near the Baroda Ghat for more than an hour to get it identified, but later shifted it to MGM medical college mortuary for postmortem, though it is still unidentified.

OC, Bagbera thana Koisalendra Jha first claimed that the youth might have drowned in the river-ghat while taking bath, but on being queried he said might have drowned while crossing a cemented path linking Adityapur to Bagbera.

“There is a cemented path linking Adityapur to Bagbera along the Baroda Ghat. Though it is not a proper pathway, several people do use it as a shortcut way. Following a spell of monsoon rains, the cemented pathway has become slippery. The youth might have slipped into the river-ghat while negotiating the slippery path and drowned, ” Jha said while talking to lagatar24.com.

The OC pointed out drowning deaths at this point of the Baroda Ghat is a regular phenomenon, adding that the people continue to use the shortcut route risking their lives.
