New Delhi, April 11: A day after student clash at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University, the university issued a statement on Monday that it has a zero tolerance policy towards any form of violence. It also warned the students to refrain from any such incident that disturbs the peace and harmony on (the) campus.

“If anyone is found indulging in such actions, they will be liable for disciplinary action as per the university rules,” warns JNU.

Notably on Sunday, two student groups – a left-wing student union and the RSS-linked ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) – accused each other of inciting violence on campus and uploaded videos and images to back up their accusations on social media.

Aishe Ghosh, head of the JNUSU (Jawaharlal Nehru Students Union), claimed that members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) caused a riot and beat members of the Kaveri Hostel mess over chicken cooking. In response to the allegations, the ABVP stated that a Ram Navami prayer ceremony was disrupted by Left-wing student unions chanting slogans. At least six kids were hurt as a result of the incident, which caused widespread outrage.

In the midst of the controversy surrounding the incident, the Vice Chancellor paid a visit to the dormitory, which was at the core of the violence, and talked with students on Monday.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Police announced that they had filed a first information report (FIR) against unidentified Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members.
