Jamshedpur, June 27: The court of first additional district judge, Seraikela, Amit Shekhar, on Tuesday convicted nine persons in the much-hyped Tabrez Ansari mob lynching case registered with the Seraikela thana in June 2019.
While convicting the accused, the court acquitted two accused Satyanarayan Nayak and Sumant Pradhan, giving them benefit of doubts. The court will pronounce the term of punishment on July 5.
Those convicted are Pappu Mondal, Bhim Singh Mondal, Kamal Mahto, Atul Mahali, Sumant Mahto, Vikram Mondal, Chamu Nayak, Premchand Mahali and Prakash Mahali.
Except Pappu Mondal who is the main accused, all the accused were on bail after their arresting in June 2019.
Tabrez Ansari (23), who was a resident of Mahuldiha village in Seraikela, was fatally injured allegedly after being lynched by mob at Dhatkidih village under Sini Thana Out Post in the night of June 18, 2018.
Tabrez who was caught while committing theft at the Dhatkidih village, was beaten by the local residents who had handed him over to the police after the daybreak. But his condition suddenly deteriorated on June 21, and the next evening he succumbed to his injury at the Seraikela Sadar Hospital.
