10 cops hurt in Tana Bhagats stone pelting in Latehar

Daltonganj, Oct 10: The officer in charge of Latehar police station, Amit Kumar Gupta, and nine other cops were injured in stone pelting by Tana Bhagats in Latehar on Monday when they had squatted before civil court and the police wanted to clear it.

The Tana Bhagats were asking for 5th schedule.

Police used water canons and burst teargas shells. The Tana Bhagats hurled stones and damaged one police patrol car.

Police had to resort to lathi charge to restore law and order.

Ved Prakash a senior health official of the Sadar Hospital in Latehar said 10 cops including the officer in charge have been treated in the hospital. One Tana Bhagat, too, is hurt.

Sources said that the Tana Bhagats did unprecedented things like gheraoing the civil court.

SP Latehar Anjani Anjan did not take the calls of this correspondent.
