Chatra, May 26: 1149 villages in 12 blocks of the district will start getting tap water under ‘har ghar jal nal yojna’. Work is going on rapidly with this scheme completed in 200 villages and the supply of water started. In the rest of the villages, the scheme will get completed by Dec 2024. The entire project will cost Rs 500 crore.
Executive engineer of the drinking water and sanitation department Avik Ambala said the work is going on to complete this ambitious project before the end of the year 2024. In 200 villages, this work got completely started with a supply of water, he said.
Sources said out of 1149 villages, 55% will get the supply of water from rivers or dams. Rest 45% will get the supply from deep borings. Villages of a few blocks including Chatra, Itkhori, Mayurhund, Kanachatti and Giddhore will get water from Tilaiya Dam in Koderma. Around 10.5 million gallons of water will be supplied to villages of these five blocks from Tilaiya Dam, officials added. First, water will be stored in the Baksha Dam of Itkhori. Work is also going to lay pipes so as to bring water from Tilaiya dam situated in Koderma district to Baksha dam situated in temple town Itkhori of Chatra.
About rest seven blocks, they will get the supply of water through 800 feet deep borings.
