Dhanbad, July 6: The Dhanbad POCSO court today sentenced 20 years jail to a rape accused youth, identified as Saurabh Kumar, a resident of the Jorapokhar area of the district, in a one-year-old case.

The special judge of POCSO Court  Prabhakar Singh while delivering the judgment also slapped a penalty of Rs 10,000 on the accused, besides 20 years jail term.

The additional public prosecutor (APP) said that the court had held Saurabh Kumar guilty in a case on Wednesday and announced the quantum of punishment today.

As per the FIR lodged in Jorapokhar police station of the district, in February 2022, the youth, who was a school friend of the victim girl, took her away to Dhanbad city for watching Saraswati Puja fair and raped her there.

Later, on November 8, 2022, the girl gave birth to a baby in Jamadoba  Hospital.  First, the youth agreed to marry the girl but later refused to do so. Finally, family members of the girl filed an FIR on February 19, 2023, in the Jorapokhar police station.

The police filed a charge sheet against the accused on March 2, 2023.
