Ahmedabad: A flight carrying 33 Gujarati immigrants, who were among 104 Indians deported from the US for illegal immigration, landed at Ahmedabad airport on Thursday morning, officials confirmed.

Deportees Sent to Their Hometowns

• The 33 immigrants, including women and children, were transported to their native places in Gujarat in police vehicles after landing.

• Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) R D Oza stated, “A plane carrying 33 Gujarati immigrants landed in Ahmedabad from Amritsar in the morning. We deployed police vehicles to transport them to their respective places.”

• The deportees avoided speaking to the media and directly left for their hometowns.

Majority from North and Central Gujarat

• Most of the deported immigrants belong to Mehsana, Gandhinagar, Patan, Vadodara, and Kheda districts, sources said.

• A US military aircraft had earlier flown 104 illegal Indian immigrants to Amritsar on Wednesday, including the 33 individuals from Gujarat.

Families Claim Unawareness About Illegal Travel

• Relatives of many deported Gujaratis claimed they were unaware of how their family members reached the US.

• Former Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel expressed sympathy for the deportees, stating they had gone abroad in search of better career opportunities and should not be labeled as criminals.

• Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of CID-Crime, Parikshita Rathod, clarified that the police will not question the deportees at this stage.
