400 Absconding Criminals in Jharkhand to Have Rewards Ranging from ₹2–30 Lakh

Ranchi: In a major crackdown on crime, the Jharkhand government has approved a reward scheme targeting 400 absconding criminals across the state. Rewards will range from ₹2 lakh to ₹30 lakh depending on the number of cases registered against each criminal. The proposal was cleared during the cabinet meeting held on May 8.

Reward Categories Based on Case Count

The reward amounts have been classified into five categories:

Criminals with over 20 cases: ₹20–30 lakh reward Criminals with 15 cases: ₹10–20 lakh reward Criminals with 10 cases: ₹2–5 lakh reward Other fugitives: flat ₹2 lakh reward

Increment Policy and Validity of Reward

If an absconding criminal is not arrested within two months of the reward declaration, the amount may be increased. The validity of the reward remains for two years.

Authority to Declare Rewards

Up to ₹1 lakh: Superintendent of Police (SP) ₹1–5 lakh: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) ₹5–10 lakh: Director General of Police (DGP) ₹10–20 lakh: Home Minister Above ₹20 lakh: Chief Minister

The identity of the informant providing details about the criminal will be kept strictly confidential.
