Ranchi, May 14: As many as 68 percent of the total 52 lakh 22 thousand and 815 voters exercised their franchise in the first phase of Panchayat election.

Barring a few incidents of stone pelting and manhandling at two booths of Giridih, the election remained peaceful.

There were as many as 14079 polling booths in the 21 districts where elections were held on Saturday.

Secretary of State Election Commission Radheshyam Prasad confirmed the peaceful voting saying elaborate arrangements were made to ensure peaceful elections.

However, in a bizarre incident at Giridih, a woman was angered after realizing that she had been declared dead in the voter list at booth 207.

Meanwhile, BJP lodged a complaint against Chatra DC Anjali Yadav before state election commissioner alleging her of violating the democratic rights of candidates.
