New Delhi: As air quality in Delhi-NCR plummets post-Diwali, a recent survey by Local Circles highlights that 69% of families in the region are facing pollution-related health issues, including sore throat, cough, and eye irritation. Conducted among over 21,000 residents, the survey underscores the severe health toll of air pollution, which saw AQI readings reach an alarming 999 in certain areas on Diwali night.

The survey found that 62% of families have at least one member experiencing burning eyes, while 46% reported runny noses or congestion. Breathing difficulties or asthma were noted by 31% of respondents, with an additional 31% experiencing headaches. Other reported symptoms included anxiety, trouble concentrating (23%), and sleep issues (15%).

How Delhi-NCR Residents Are Coping with Pollution

Delhi-NCR residents are adopting various strategies to manage the escalating air pollution, which currently ranges from 300 to 500 AQI and is expected to worsen. Among 10,630 respondents, 15% plan to temporarily leave the city, while 9% will remain indoors, focusing on immunity-boosting foods. Another 23% aim to use air purifiers in conjunction with these measures.

In addition, 15% of residents intend to wear masks outdoors, and another 15% will combine this with immune-strengthening foods. Meanwhile, some residents plan to continue their routines with minimal intervention, despite the risks.
