New Delhi, Mar 14: An important hearing was held on Monday in the double bench of Justice Ajay Rastogi and Justice Abhay Oka regarding the Jharkhand Public Service Commission’s (JPSC) Sixth JPSC exam results.
Hearing the case of petitioners Varun Kumar and Faizan Sarwar, the apex court has issued a notice to JPSC and the Jharkhand Government to appear on the next date to know their side and has instructed to maintain the status quo till then.
Senior advocates of the Supreme Court Prashant Bhushan, P Patwalia, Kapil Sibal, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, V. Mohana, Vigyan Shah, Chishti Jain, Shubhashish Rasik Soren, etc. were present on behalf of the petitioners on the occasion. Along with this, the court also fixed the next date of hearing on March 31 at 2 p.m.
Notably, the double bench of the Jharkhand High Court cancelled all the appointments of the sixth JPSC and ordered the issue of a new merit list on February 23, 2022.
The court had upheld the order of the single bench, after which 326 successful candidates have suffered a major setback. A total of 326 people were appointed by JPSC and began serving at different posts in different districts of the state despite the irregularities with the results.
While hearing the matter, a double bench of Chief Justice Dr. Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad, while upholding the decision of the single bench, had quashed the sixth JPSC results.
The court had given this order while hearing LPA 204 and 207. According to the information, on June 7, 2021, the court had initially given the decision to issue the new merit list of the sixth JPSC.
The court had said that the main examination was conducted in six papers of a total of 1050. The minimum score for language papers including Hindi and English was 30 marks out of 100, but the number was added in preparation of the merit list by the commission, which is specifically not allowed as per rules.
Apart from this, it was mandatory for students to pass in all subjects. Regarding this, a petition was filed in the single bench of the High Court, where the court cancelled all the appointments and ordered to issue a new merit list.
In this regard, the successful candidates filed an appeal in the Double Bench of the High Court, on which the court had ruled and upheld the previous judgment. Notably, the JPSC also released a new merit list late on Friday evening.
