New Delhi, June 19: PM Narendra Modi inaugurates the Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor on Sunday, which cost over Rs 920 crores to build. The idea intends to make entry to the exhibition and conference centre being built at Pragati Maidan smooth.
According to the government, the project’s impact would extend well beyond Pragati Maidan, as it will ensure smooth vehicular circulation, saving commuters a significant amount of time and money. It is part of the government’s broader ambition to improve people’s quality of life by improving urban infrastructure.
“The main tunnel of the corridor connects Ring Road with India Gate via Purana Qila Road, passing through Pragati Maidan. The six-lane divided Tunnel has multiple purposes, including access to the huge basement parking of Pragati Maidan,” the government said in a statement.
Ring Road and India Gate are connected by the main tunnel, which runs through Pragati Maidan and Purana Qila Road. The six-lane divided tunnel serves a variety of uses, including providing access to Pragati Maidan’s massive subterranean parking garage. Two cross tunnels have been built beneath the main tunnel road to assist traffic passage from either side of the parking lot, which is a unique feature of the Tunnel.
Inside the tunnel, it is equipped with the most up-to-date global standards for traffic flow, including smart fire management, modern ventilation and automated drainage, digitally controlled CCTV, and a public announcement system.
