Ranchi, June 23: The Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University on Thursday commemorated the death anniversary of its namesake Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
The new Vice-Chancellor, Prof Dr Tapan Shandilya after paying his respects described him as an intense politician. He said, “He achieved political climax at an early age and became the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calcutta at the age of 33.”
Furthermore, while referring to his personality, the VC said that believing in the totality of the country, with the talk of one nation, one legislation, he started his journey to Kashmir on May 8, 1953, without any permission from leaders. “He was the nurturer of the collective interest of all the people. He was arrested on May 11, 1953, and died in jail on June 23, 1953,” the VC said.
Registrar Dr Namita Singh remembered Dr Mukherjee as a virtuous leader and a politician who expressed his clear opinion on the Kashmir issue. Earlier, all the teachers and staff paid tribute to Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee with flowers.
DSW Dr Anil Kumar, Proctor Dr Pankaj Kumar, Finance Officer Dr Anand Mishra along with all teaching and non-teaching staff and representatives of the students union were present on the occasion.
