Daltonganj, June 26: An open and abandoned well, which is steps away from the model aanganwadi cum nursery school centre in Latehar district poses an extreme threat to children here. Located in the Ramseli 1 village under the Mayapur panchayat of Garu block of the district, the well is present without any parapet.
Sources have claimed that it may sink or cave further in with the advent of monsoon. Small shrubs have grown within the well providing camouflage for the opening of the well, giving it a covered look that is far more perilous.
CDPO Garu Anita Kumari, on being contacted said, the issue has come to her cognizance. She further said the Sahiyas and mothers have been asked there to be extra alert and cautious.
A total of 30 kids with their mothers are said to be regular visitors to the anganwadi centre here.
The CDPO Garu further said that she has informed senior officials urging them to take care of the open well by either covering it with a concrete slab or by raising a few feet of parapet wall around it.
