New Delhi, July 12: In the wake of the release of the most recent rankings, Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer fell out of the ATP rankings for the first time in 25 years. Due to Federer’s lack of tennis activity since last year’s Wimbledon, he is currently unranked in the ATP rankings, which take into consideration points accumulated during the preceding 52 weeks.

Before the start of this year’s Wimbledon, the 40-year-old was ranked 97th. Since making his solo debut at the age of 16 in September 1997, when he was tied for 803rd, Federer had been listed every week in the rankings. In 2021’s Wimbledon quarterfinal loss against Hubert Hurkacz, Federer made his final appearance. He got his third knee surgery in 18 months not long after that game.

Federer hasn’t competed since, but he did show up on Centre Court for Wimbledon’s centennial celebrations and expressed his desire to compete there at least once more. The Swiss want to participate in the Basel Open this year.

Notably, 20 Grand Slam championships have been won by Federer over his brilliant career. Only Rafael Nadal (22) and Novak Djokovic (21) have won more Grand Slam championships in men’s sports.

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev, Rafael Nadal, and Daniil Medvedev retain to hold the top three spots in the rankings.
