Ranchi, Aug.23: Nine days after three members of a family died of electrocution while hoisting the national flag in Boreya on the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a delegation of Congress today met the general manager of JBVNL, P K Srivastava, demanding compensation for kin of the deceased persons.

The delegation comprising Alok Kumar Dubey, Lal Kishore Nath Shahdeo, Rajesh Gupta, Kumud Ranjan, Abhishek Sahu and Sanjeet Yadav has demanded Rs 15 lakh as compensation and given a deadline of 48 hours to make the payment. The delegation warned the general manager of the dire consequences on failing to pay the money.

The delegation expressed concern over the electrocution state government has to cut a sorry figure before the public due to criminal negligence of JBVNL. They asked how overhead wires are being used in Jharkhand when several crores have been provided for underground cabling.

Dubey later also requested state finance minister Rameshwar Oraon to pass a proposal of giving Rs 50 lakh as compensation in case of death and Rs 25 lakh in case of injury due to the negligence of JBVNL from the state cabinet.

Three family members, all in their 20s, died from electrocution while raising the flag on the roof of their home. Puja Jha, Aarti Jha, and Vineet Jha made up the trio. The event happened when the three attempted to raise the national flag using an iron rod under an HT wire and the iron rod somehow made contact with the wire.
