Ranchi, Aug 23: Eminent educationist, musician and tribal activist Dr Ram Dayal Munda was remembered on his 83rd birth anniversary at a seminar organised by Dr Ram Dayal Munda Tribal Research Institute on Tuesday.
Several academicians and litterateurs including Dr Santosh Kiro, Dr Meenakshi Munda, Dr Soma Munda, Dr Jinder Singh Munda, Mahadev Toppo and Ikir Gunjal Munda shared their views on Padma Shri Dr Ram Dayal Munda’s philosophy.
Dr Ram Dayal Munda was the Vice Chancellor of Ranchi University and a member of the Rajya Sabha. He was involved in the Jharkhand movement and had founded the Jharkhand People’s Party.
The topic of the seminar at the Tribal Research Institute (TRI) was ‘Adviasi Arthiki, Aadidharm evam Mundari Sahitya’. The speakers shared Dr Munda’s thoughts on primitive religion and tribal literature.
While TRI Director Ranendra Kumar welcomed the guests, TRI deputy director Monika Rani Tuti gave the vote of thanks.
Dr Munda was also remembered by many on social media.
Chief Minister Hemant Soren tweeted, “Tributes to the great educationist and artist Padma Shri Dr Ramdayal Munda ji, who took the rich tribal art and culture of Jharkhand to the world stage.”
Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi tweeted, “Tributes to the great educationist and well-known folk artist Padma Shri Dr Ramdayal Munda ji on his birth anniversary, who highlighted the folk culture of Jharkhand on the global stage.”
BJP leader Anant Ojha said, “Salute to the eminent educationist of Jharkhand and well-known folk artist on the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr Ramdayal Munda ji, who showcased the culture of the state on the global stage. His efforts to enrich the art and culture of tribal society will always be remembered.”
Delhi-based Sangeet Natak Akademi tweeted, “Shri Ram Dayal Munda learnt the traditional music of his people from his grandfather Chamu Singh Munda. For his contribution to the tribal music and dance of Jharkhand, he received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2007.”
