Jamshedpur, Sept 16: The outlawed Naxal outfit, CPI-Maoist has carried out a poster campaign in about half-a-dozen villages in West Singhbhum district on Friday to observe the outfit’s establishment day on September 21.

The outlawed outfit seems to have resorted to such a campaign to make their presence felt in the areas which were once considered to be Naxal-stronghold pockets.

The poster campaign has been carried out in the villages falling under the Goelkera and Chaibasa Mufassil areas of the district which are located about 80-100 km away from here.

Though the posters and banners were fixed in school buildings and Panchayat office buildings sometime on the intervening night of Friday, the police seized all such materials and destroyed them as soon as the matter came to their notice in the morning.

Through the posters and banners which were written in Hindi, the outfit has appealed to the people to celebrate the 18th anniversary of the creation of CPI-Maoist.

Although the CPI-Maoist’s anniversary falls on September 21, the outfit will observe it throughout the week till September 27.

A senior police officer said in view of the appeal by the Naxal outfit, the police and paramilitary forces have been put on maximum alert.

“We have to remain maximum alert during the week starting from Send 21. The rebel outfit is presently desperate and the outfit may go to any extent for making their presence felt while the Naxals are facing defeat constantly and are now on the backfoot,” said the police officer requesting anonymity.

Notably, the Naxal outfits CPI-ML, People’s War Group and MCCI had merged together on Set 21, 2004 giving way for the creation of CPI-Maoist instead.
