Chatra, Sept 18: A CRPF jawan was injured on Sunday during an encounter between security forces and the CPI-Maoists in the district. The encounter took place in the Sikid Balhi forest of Pratappur-Kunda police station area of the district.
Here the CRPF 190 Battalion and District Police, out on anti-Naxal operation, encountered Arvind Bhuyan, Regional Committee member of CPI Maoist organisation and Sub Zonal Command Manohar Ganjhu squad. In this encounter, CRPF jawan Chittaranjan Kumar was shot and injured by Maoists. He has been referred to Ranchi for better treatment.
District SP Rakesh Ranjan had received a tip that the hardcore Naxalites of CPI-Maoist were gathering in Sikid Balhi forest of Pratappur-Kunda police station area. On the basis of the information received, a search operation was conducted by the CRPF and the district police.
During this the said encounter took place. Several Naxalites have been shot during the encounter. However, the Naxalites managed to escape after being overwhelmed by the security force. Security forces are conducting a search operation in the forest.
