Ranchi, Sept 27: The Department of International Relations at the Central University of Jharkhand on Tuesday organised a weekly-student seminar on ‘Comparative Study of South Korea’s New Southern Policy (New Southern Policy) and Mongolia’s Third Neighbor Policy (Third Neighbor Policy)’. The seminar has been organised to create curiosity among students and teachers on national and international issues.

Rinkle Tyagi, research scholar, Department of International Relations, discussed the topic in detail. Talking about South Korea and Mongolia in her lecture, she said that Northeast Asia is being considered as a major component of the larger Asia-Pacific economic structure. Simultaneously, the axis of the world power equation is also shifting in Asia. In her lecture, Tyagi told how political equations are flourishing in India and China on the continent of Asia to keep the geopolitics of the Central Asian continent in their favor.

In this context, Tyagi said that due to the increasing economic, political and military power of China, the geopolitics of Asia is slowly taking a turn. In this episode, many countries of the continent of Asia are making changes in their foreign policy to change the current geo-politics. Taiwan has adopted the ‘New South-Bound Policy’ with the help of foreign policy like Mongolia’s ‘Third Neighbor Policy’ and South Korea’s ‘New Southern Policy’.

The new dimension of foreign policy of these small nations points towards the emergence of a new geopolitics. There are many countries like Mongolia, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, whose economic dependence on China has gone far beyond expectation. Foreign policies have been made to reduce this economic dependence and to extend its reach from a strategic point of view, besides China and Russia, to extend its economic and political relations with other countries of Asia.

The world scenario and attitude towards India were discussed in detail. Mongolia’s ‘New Southern Policy’ can write a new chapter of economic cooperation between India and Mongolia, because Mongolia has abundant natural resources, which China is making full use of, Tyagi further added.

All the teachers, research scholars and students of the department were present on this occasion. After this, students and teachers also raised many questions.
