New Delhi, Oct 3: Controversy erupted after a Durga puja in Kolkata organized by the All India Hindu Mahasabha presented “Mahisasura” as Mahatma Gandhi.
The puja organizers, however, changed their mind after pressure from the home ministry and removed the faces. The Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha changed the appearance of the idol as per police instructions after filing a complaint, PTI reported.
The move drew condemnation from all parties, the state’s ruling Trinamool Congress and opposition parties including the Bharatiya Janata Party, CPI-M and the Congress.
Bengal Provincial Hindu Mahasabha condemned the incident. Kunal Ghosh, the state spokesperson of the ruling Trinamool Congress, said that if it was really done, it was nothing but sacrilege.
“It is an insult to the Father of the Nation. It is an insult to every citizen of the country. What would the BJP say about such an insult? We know the assassin of Gandhiji belonged to which ideological camp,” he added.
