Varanasi, Oct 7: Following the three-day Gyanvapi Masjid court-ordered video survey, the Varanasi court is set to rule on the Hindu side’s petition demanding carbon dating of the structure they claimed to be a Shivling discovered inside the Gyanvapi Mosque’s wazukhana or pond.

After hearing the arguments from both parties, the court reserved the decision in the Gyanvapi Mosque-Shringar Gauri issue on September 29. The order would be issued by the bench of Varanasi District Judge Ajay Krishna Vishwesh at roughly 2:00 PM.

On September 22, the Hindu side demanded that the Shivling-like structure undergo carbon dating and other scientific tests. Both plaintiff number one Rakhi Singh of the Hindu side and the Anjuman Inazaniya Masajid Committee of the Muslim side contested this.

In court, the attorneys had raised a concern that carbon dating would harm the building. The age of an archaeological object or find can be determined scientifically using carbon dating.

Two other cases that were scheduled for hearing on Thursday but were postponed due to the holiday will also be heard today.

First, a case was brought by Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda regarding the court’s request for the worship of the Shivling in Gyanvapi. The second lawsuit concerns the demand that the Hindus be given ownership of the “Shivling” location in Gyanvapi. Senior Civil Judge Kumudlata Tripathi’s bench will hold a hearing on both cases today.
