Kyiv, Oct 18: Authorities in Moscow said on Tuesday that a Russian military plane crash-landed into a residential section of Yeysk, a town in southwest Russia close to the border with Ukraine, killing at least 13 people, three of whom were children.
After initially reporting three fatalities, the ministry of emergency situations confirmed in a statement that rescuers had finished searching the rubble and found 10 more bodies.
According to the ministry, which was cited by Russian news outlets, 13 individuals overall died, including three children, while 19 people were injured.
On Monday evening, a Sukhoi Su-34 crashed, setting off a large fire that consumed a nine-story structure housing about 600 people.
After learning of the fire, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued an order that “all required aid be given to casualties from the military plane mishap,” according to a statement from the Kremlin to the state-run TASS news agency.
“At the site of the Sukhoi Su-34 crash, in the courtyard of a residential area, the aircraft’s fuel caught fire,” said the ministry of defence.
