Dhanbad, Nov 3: The Jharkhand Health Service Association (JHSA) and Indian Medical Association (IMA) have urged the chief minister, health minister, director general of police (DGP) and additional chief secretary (ACS) health for taking action against a police officer who assaulted a post-graduate student of RIMS Ranchi Dr Syed Hidaytullah and his friend.

JHSA secretary Dr Thakur Mritunjay Kumar Singh in his letter said that doctors of state are peeved and panicked as even after five days of the unsavoury incident, no action has been initiated against the assaulter police officer. This has sent the wrong message to doctors of the state.

“Dr Syed Hidaytullah is a JHSA central committee member and active member of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) state body. At present, he is completing higher education (PG) course at Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi.  Despite giving his identification, terrorist-like treatment with him by a police officer has hurt the medical fraternity of state,” said Dr Thakur, JHSA secretary.

As per JHSA, the official incident with Dr Hidaytullah took place on October 30. Dr Hidaytullah along with his friend was going to Hazaribagh from Ranchi when police intercepted his car near Mandu police station of Ramgarh district and branded a gun on him.

It is alleged that despite Dr Hidaytullah showing his identity card RIMS, a police officer branded a pistol on him and warned him to shoot him.

Dr Thakur said that it is a matter of concern that despite doctors of the state having put their life at stake for providing better services to patients, medicos are being targeted on different pretexts.

Earlier, a joint delegation of Ramgarh district JHSA and IMA chapters met the superintendent of police and demanded action against the Mandu police station officer-in-charge for assaulting Dr Hidaytullah.

“JHSA, IMA has left no option but to seek the intervention of chief minister, health minister, director general of police and additional chief secretary for restoring confidence among doctors,” said the JHSA secretary.
