New Delhi, Nov 8: Katihar in Bihar recorded the highest AQI (Air Quality Index) of 360 among 163 Indian cities, showing that air pollution levels have gotten worse in India in 2022, according to data issued by the Central Pollution Control Board on November 7.
According to the data, Delhi’s AQI was 354, Noida’s was 328, and Ghaziabad’s was 304. According to the most recent information available, Begusarai (Bihar), Ballabgarh, Faridabad, Kaithal, and Gurugram in Haryana, as well as Gwalior (MP), were among the cities with the worst air quality on Monday.
Due to field fires and vehicle emissions, the pollution levels in North India, particularly in the national capital region, alternated between ‘severe’ and ‘extremely poor.’
The Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) reported 3,634 farm fires in Punjab on Wednesday, the highest this year so far.
One of the main sources of PM 2.5 pollutants is farm fires. The PM 2.5 particle concentration that can enter the circulation and infiltrate the heart and lungs and is associated with chronic respiratory disorders is measured by the Air Quality Index.
The Air Quality Index (AQI), which is connected to chronic respiratory disorders, assesses the concentration of PM 2.5 levels, which are tiny particles smaller than 2.5 microns that can enter the bloodstream and reach the lungs and heart.
In addition to harming healthy lungs, breathing poisonous air has been discovered to hasten the death of people who already have respiratory ailments. According to Greenpeace, air pollution caused more than 1.2 million premature deaths among Indians in 2017.
