Hazaribag, Nov 9: The clash between police and villagers in Sinhpur of Chatra district has left many questions unanswered. The villagers not only thrashed ASI Shashikant Thakur but also tore his uniform making additional police forces reach there and rescue him.

Villagers charged Thakur with trying to release a pickup van driver whom they said was responsible for reckless driving and killing a labourer on the spot. They said he was taking the driver from a different route which was long compared to the police line route from where the Sadar police station was only 4 km.

No senior officer is ready to talk about this issue. However, on the condition of anonymity, they said that the villagers attacked the team on the wrong charges. The ASI was doing his work honestly and he was bringing the arrested driver to the police station when they attacked him. “We will find out why villagers committed this crime,” they added.

ASI Thakur, who is undergoing treatment and is now referred to Hazaribag, said that the allegation on him for conniving with the pickup van driver is wrong. “If I had not taken him through a different route then there were chances of mob lynching of the driver,” he said.

Police investigation reached the fact that there were some youths between the age group of 18 to 30 who were instigating the mob to attack the police. “We got many videos related to this case and we are scanning all to reach facts. Just wait for a few days and we will come up with all the answers to your questions,” said a police officer to Lagatar24.com.

Seeing police action, many in Dahuri village went underground and no one wants to talk about this incident. “We will not say anything now otherwise police will include our name too in this case,” added a villager.
