Ranchi, Dec 12: The National Board of Examination in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will start the Diplomate of National Board (DNB) course in Obstetrics and gynaecology at Ranchi Sadar Hospital. It will be equivalent to a post-graduate degree.

The board has given its approval for a total of four seats after inspection. Out of the four, two seats will be reserved for post-MBBS students and the other two seats will be reserved for students of post-diploma level.

The hospital management has received the accreditation related to the recognition. According to the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), students will be able to enrol on these seats through NEET PG Exam- 2023.

At the time of PG counselling, they will have the option of Sadar Hospital Ranchi for MD, MS as well as DNB (Obs & Gynae) courses. This hospital will be the first district hospital in the area where such a course will be offered.

The course aims to remove the shortage of specialist doctors in the hospitals of Jharkhand. Its duration will be for three years.

After training, senior doctors with MBBS degrees will get recognition equivalent to a diploma. A detailed study was done of the selected faculty, guide-co-guide’s certificate, qualification, experience, research journals and reports regarding the number of patients coming to the department.

Moreover, the shortage of specialist doctors across the state will also be resolved as soon as the course starts because while completing the course, doctors have to train other doctors by staying in the hospital for three years.

After completing the course, medical students pursue the DNB course for specialisation. Sadar’s specialist doctors will organise classes for the students enrolled in the course based on their experience.

Notably, to get the approval, the hospital had to go through several standards and prescribed procedures. For this, the team visited Ranchi and inspected many aspects. For recognition of the course, a team from the board reviewed the existing infrastructure and interviewed the applicants.
