Dhanbad, Dec 21: In an unprecedented move, the financial power of 62 Panchayat chiefs (Mukhiya) has been seized in Dhanbad for sitting on the 15th Financial Commission fund.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sandip Singh directed to seize financial power of the Mukhiya and Panchayat Samiti members of 62 Panchayats with immediate effect after a review meeting of important development projects.

At the meeting of the 15th Financial Commission-aided projects on Tuesday evening, it was found that the Mukhiyas of these 62 Panchayats had not touched the tide fund meant for the implementation of the water and sanitation project.

Expressing concern over the lethargic approach towards development, the DC directed the concerned authorities to seize the chiefs’ financial power and authorised the deputy Mukhiyas for utilizing the fund. He also directed to initiate action against the Panchayat secretary of all the Panchayats for the lapses.

“It is a serious matter that on one side the state government provides all assistance for strengthening the rural areas while on the other side, the Mukhiyas of some Panchayats have an indifferent attitude in executing the selected development projects. Such an indifferent approach would not be tolerated under any circumstances,” the DC said at the review meeting.

The DC went on to say that the Savitribai Phule Kishori Samridhi Yojna, Naya Kisan Credit Card, Mukhyamantri  Pashudhan Vikash Yojna, registration of new green ration card and its distribution, Mukhyamantri Sukha Rahat Yojna are some of the ambitious projects of the state government that have to be executed on priority basis so that people could get the maximum benefit of it.

Apart from DC, DRDA director Mumtaz Ali, NEP director Indu Rani, DCLR cum Panchayati Raj officer Satish Chandra, and district social welfare officer Sneh Kashyap were also present at the review meeting.
