New Delhi, Jan 2: A 23-year-old woman was on her way home when the scooter she was riding crashed with the car early on Sunday morning, dragging her for around four kilometres from Sultanpuri to Kanjhawala in Delhi.

The incident came to light after the Rohini district’s Kanjhawal police received a call at around 3:30 am on Sunday reporting that a grey Baleno car heading toward Qutubgarh was dragging a woman’s body behind it. The staff members stationed at the checkpoints received the caller’s car registration number and were given explicit orders to stop the car and search it.

A second call reporting the woman’s naked body lying on the road was made to the Kanjhawala police at around four in the morning. The criminal team arrived at the location. The forensics team was also requested to gather evidence from the crime site, including samples and exhibits. The SGM Hospital in Mangolpuri received the body.

In the interim, the Delhi Police located the vehicle and began an inquiry. Five people have been detained after they were able to locate the car’s owner. All of them admitted during questioning that they were in the car when it struck the woman’s scooter within the Sultanpuri police station’s jurisdiction.

Following the collision, the vehicle dragged the young woman for nearly four kilometres from Sultanpuri to the Kanjhawala neighbourhood. During this time, the woman’s clothes were torn and she suffered severe injuries that ultimately resulted in her death.
