New Delhi, Jan 8: Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 1.9 degrees Celsius on Sunday amid a cold wave that affected portions of northern India, according to the India Meteorological Department.
The minimum temperature was recorded at 2.6 degrees Celsius in Aya Nagar, also in Delhi, while it was 2.8 degrees Celsius in Lodhi Road and 5.2 degrees Celsius in Palam, according to the IMD.
On Sunday morning, a dense layer of fog reduced visibility throughout Delhi and the surrounding areas. Fog and extremely chilly temperatures are still present in the nation’s capital and the adjacent states.
According to a Delhi airport spokesman, some 20 planes from the Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed on Sunday until 1 pm as a result of bad weather and other operational problems.
42 trains were delayed by one hour to five hours as a result of the fog, according to a Northern Railway representative.
According to the IMD, a cold wave and frigid days will persist throughout northwest India over the next two days until Monday.
The weather service predicts that after two days starting on Tuesday, minimum temperatures in several areas of the plains of Northwest India will rise by roughly 2 degrees Celsius. Over east India, Tuesday is the most likely day with no notable change in minimum temperatures and the following three days with an increase of roughly 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.
The weather office stated that very dense fog conditions will prevail on January 8 and 9 in isolated places of north Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Assam, and Tripura.
